Why Has Soft dB Developed the Automatic Calibration Process?

Because the sound spectrum generated in a room is function of many parameters, such as the type of suspended ceiling, the height of the ceiling space, the dimensions of the room, the acoustical characteristics of the furniture, the density of the furniture, etc. Thus a sound masking system has to be adjusted precisely to the room’ characteristics to obtain the optimum sound masking spectrum.

In all other masking systems on the market, this adjustment has to be done manually. This means that the acoustical measurements have to be performed with a 1/3 octave or (octave band) frequency analyzer (specialized acoustical equipment) in each zone where the acoustic room response may be different. The values of these measurements have to be analyzed, and the equalizer adjusted accordingly.

In most installations, the consequence of this problem is that many installers use only a sound-meter to obtain the global level of the masking spectrum without considering the spectrum of the generated sound. The result is often inadequate sound masking and dissatisfied users.
