Why Is the Smart SMS Sound Masking System the Best on the Market?

  • Because the Smart SMS is the only sound masking system with an exclusive auto-calibration algorithm (patent pending 2,471,674) that ensures the exact desired sound masking spectrum (please consult What is the optimum sound masking?).

  • Because the Smart SMS includes an advanced signal-processing procedure that automatically adjusts the volume of masking, higher or lower, depending on the intensity of conversation noise and other noise distractions.

  • Because the Smart SMS is the only sound masking system with a built-in real time 1/3 octave band spectrum analyzer that measures and verifies the conformity of the installation.

  • Because the Smart SMS offers these unique features at a very competitive price.

Why Has Soft dB Developped the Automatic Calibration of the Masking Spectrum?

The exclusive auto-adjustment system of the Smart SMS allows, with the optimization process controlled by the DSP, to generate the optimum sound masking spectrum wanted, no matter what are the geometrical and acoustical characteristics of the room. This exclusive system guarantees the conformity and the quality of the masking spectrum generated in 100% of the installations without the trial and error steps.

With the Smart SMS, no more disatisfaction and no more waste of time!

Why Do Some Clients Appreciate the Sound Masking System, Even the More Renowned Ones, While Other Clients Are Dissatisfied with the Same Sound Masking System?

Because the rival sound masking systems are preadjusted for a typical acoustical environment (eight-foot ceiling, medium-quality carpet and ceiling tiles, four-inch ceiling space height, medium-density and medium-acoustical characteristics of the furniture, etc.)1. If the fitting-out of the room is different from the typical case (ceramic floor or no suspended ceiling, for example), the sound spectrum generated in the room will wander from the perfect masking spectrum. In that case, the system has to be adjusted in order to obtain the sound masking wanted, not only in terms of global sound pressure level, but also in terms of spectral content.

In all rival masking systems on the market, this adjustment has to be done manually. To do the adjustment properly, i.e. to obtain the ideal masking spectrum, acoustical measurements has to be done with a one-third octave band spectrum analyzer. The levels obtained in each one-third octave has to be compared with values of the ideal masking spectrum and, at last, the masking system has to be adjusted accordingly for each one-third octave. This process has to be done for every zone where the acoustical room response is different (entrance hall, open-plan offices, private offices, meeting rooms, etc.).

The adjustment of the typical sound masking system is a tedious and delicate task that needs a lot of time. Also, in almost all of the installations, the majority of the installers do the calibration by ear or, at the best, use only a sonometer to obtain approximately the global level wanted without considering the spectral content of the generated sound. The result is often inadequate sound spectrum and dissatisfied users, Also several adjustment operations of trial and error are needed. These are expensive. Because of that, clients are discontended of their new sound masking system.

THE SOLUTION

The automatic calibration of the Smart SMS eliminates these problems by generating, from the start-up of the system, the ideal sound masking spectrum no matter what are the acoustical characteristics of the room. This is a unique advantage that facilitates the installation, reduces cost and ensures the satisfaction of the clients.

The Smart SMS system redefines the standards of quality in the sound masking industry!

How does the auto-calibration system work?

1The sound spectrum, generated in a room with speakers, dependss on their quality and on the signal provided, but also on several parameters such as the type of suspended ceiling, the height of the ceiling space, the dimension of the room, the acoustical characteristics of the furniture, the quantity of the furniture, etc. All of these parameters have an effect on the acoustical properties of the room among which the characteristic called acoustic room response.
